Saying Yes to Life Starts with the Right Fit

Sometimes, the biggest transformation begins with the smallest realization. For Alyssa Theobalt, it was discovering that years of foot pain weren't caused by her body—they were caused by shoes that never truly fit. Today, she embraces life with confidence, from teaching dance classes and creating content to hiking with her rescue dog Ozzy and saying yes to every new adventure. In this edition of Women of Wydr, Alyssa shares how finding the right fit became more than a comfort upgrade—it became an act of self-care, giving her the freedom to move, explore, and live fully. Because when your shoes are designed to support you, every step becomes an invitation to say yes to life.

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what your day-to-day life looks like?

My name is Alyssa Theobalt, and I’m in my early 30s. Day to day for me is about healing and showing up for myself, whether that’s therapy or navigating eating disorder recovery. I work part-time with DivaDance, teaching classes and fostering joyful movement. I start my mornings taking Ozzy, my one-year-old rescue, to the dog park, and the rest is a mix of content creation, computer work, and living life as fully as I can.

2. How would you describe your personal style, and how do you express it through your footwear choices?

I’m on a journey of self-discovery with my style. For a long time, I just wore what fit, but now, I’m drawn to bold colors, baggy jeans, and pushing myself to wear things that excite me rather than playing it safe. When it comes to footwear, comfort is everything. No more blaming my body if my feet hurt. It’s the shoes! Finding shoes that truly fit sets me up to be fully present and alive.

3. What does a typical day in your life look like, and how does your footwear play a role in it?

I don’t know that I have a typical day right now, and honestly, I kind of love that. I’m in a season of saying yes to life. My day might start hiking with Ozzy, shift into creating content or working from my computer, and end with teaching a dance class, meeting a friend for dinner, or heading to a concert. I want to be able to say yes when something exciting comes up, and my footwear needs to keep up with that. The right shoes help me stay comfortable, supported, and present for wherever the day takes me.

4. What were some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced with finding footwear that fits in the past?

In the past, I didn’t realize I needed wide shoes. I thought my foot pain was just my body or weight, not the shoe. Once I understood I needed a wider fit, finding a brand like Wydr was a game changer. Now, I have footwear that supports my body and still looks super cute!

5. Do you have any memorable stories or experiences tied to the footwear you’ve worn over the years?

Before I found wide shoes, weddings were waddle central. Then I switched to cute sneakers and boom, all night dance marathons! At one October 2025 wedding, the dance floor turned into a full on Vegas residency. My husband Billy’s Magic Mike moment had me throwing all my dollar bills. Wearing shoes that actually supported me meant I could stay present and didn’t miss any of the fun happening on the dance floor. Those shoes helped make the night!

6. What are the top three things you look for when choosing a pair of shoes?

First, I want to feel an emotional spark, like, “Ooh, that’s cute, I need to try that!” Second, I make sure the shoe was designed with bodies like mine in mind, supporting a plus size body. And third, I read the reviews to see how the shoes perform for others. If it hits all three, it’s in my cart!

7. How did you first come across Wydr Studios, and what made you decide to give it a try?

I first discovered Wydr through an Instagram ad, and what hooked me was their message of refining footwear for every body. Seeing plus-size representation, people who looked like me, made me feel seen. But what sealed the deal was how they truly listen to their community, always engaging and improving. That’s when I thought, I’m all in!

8. What stood out to you about our footwear compared to other brands you’ve tried?

What stood out to me was that Wydr felt like the shoes were actually created with bodies like mine in mind. It wasn’t just about making a shoe bigger. It was about creating footwear that was comfortable, supportive, stylish, and designed for wider feet. That, combined with seeing plus-size bodies represented in the brand, made me feel like I had finally found footwear where I was actually considered.

9. How has wearing our shoes impacted your daily life or activities?

I recently went to Mexico with my best friends and our husbands, and my Wydr shoes were my adventure buddies the entire trip. I wore them exploring cenotes, snorkeling with sea turtles, wandering ruins, and hopping between resort activities like coconut painting, pool hopping, and bar hopping. They kept me confident in my outfits and supported my feet all week, letting me fully enjoy the vacation with no sore, swollen feet in sight!

10. What are some of your favorite activities, and how does your choice of footwear support these?

I love walking and hiking with Ozzy, dancing, traveling, exploring new places, and honestly, just saying yes to life. The right footwear allows me to do all of those things without my feet becoming the reason I have to stop. When my shoes actually fit and support me, I can stay present and focus on making memories instead of thinking about how much my feet hurt.

11. What role does comfort and functionality play in your footwear decisions?

Comfort and functionality are everything. My shoes have to support me so I can live fully. It’s not about blaming my body. It’s about choosing tools, like shoes, that help me be comfortable and say yes to life’s moments.

12. What advice would you give to someone who struggles with finding the right pair of shoes?

Finding the right shoes is personal, but I’d start by identifying what’s not working. For me, squished toes were a clue I needed a wider toe box. Look for people who talk about your issue, read reviews, and try different pairs. A bit of research helps you pinpoint your obstacle and find the perfect fit.

13. How does the footwear you choose reflect your values, such as sustainability, quality, or fashion?

For me, quality, fashion, and sustainability are key. I’ll invest in shoes if they last. I’m not interested in throwaway pairs. Wydr stood out because they use premium materials, checked by trusted hands, with consistent sizing every time. That lets me shop confidently, and I know each pair will support me, both in comfort and in longevity.

14. In what ways do you see footwear as more than just an accessory, perhaps as a reflection of identity or a means to tell your story?

Footwear, for me, isn’t just a fashion choice. It’s part of how I show up in the world. When I’m wearing shoes that fit my body and my life, I’m expressing that I deserve to take up space comfortably. My shoes tell the story of a woman choosing herself, saying yes to joyful movement, to living fully, and to walking her path with confidence.

15. What would you say to someone considering trying Wydr Studios for the first time?

What are you waiting for? Consider this your official nudge. Those shoes are practically calling your name. Go on, check out that cart. You’re going to love them!

16. What is your favorite pair of Wydr shoes till date and why?

My favorite is the Savannah Sporty Sandal in black. They were a dream in Mexico. They were customizable with Velcro at the ankle and toe, super cushioned, and that soft lining was everything. The moisture-absorbing lining kept me comfy on hot days, and they were light, so there was no extra bulk. I absolutely loved them!
