A Closer Look at Spring with our Lead Designer

A Closer Look at Spring with our Lead Designer

What was the original idea or feeling that sparked the Spring 2026 collection?

The original idea for the Spring 2026 collection began with a careful analysis of the previous season, identifying what resonated conceptually and what could be improved. From there, we looked at current trends, then selected and reinterpreted them through the lens of our brand and its client, ensuring the final direction feels both relevant and authentic.

When someone wears a piece from this collection, how do you want them to feel, physically and emotionally?
We want them to feel both excited and at ease. The shoes should inspire to style them with multiple outfits, and for different occasions, giving her a sense of versatility and confidence. At the same time, they must provide lasting comfort, allowing our customer to move effortlessly through hours of socializing, walking, or traveling without compromising on style.

Who is this collection designed for? What kind of lifestyle do you see her living?
This collection is designed for any individual with wider feet who are seeking to improve both their quality of life and overall foot health. By prioritizing fit, support, and thoughtful construction, the designs aim to build confidence in any setting — whether socializing, traveling, or simply enjoying a walk in the park. Comfort and style work together so the wearer never has to compromise one for the other.
How did you approach balancing elevated design with all-day comfort this season?
Achieving the balance between elevated design and day-long comfort is never effortless. It involved close collaboration, constant dialogue, and many rounds of refinement between design and technical team as well as repeated fittings on the model-all to perfect fit, proportion and attitude. The result is a silhouette that feels refined and modern while truly performing seamlessly in real life.

Designing specifically for wide width changes the rules. How does that reality shape your decisions around proportion and silhouette?
Designing for wide widths absolutely reshapes the approach to proportion and silhouette Every line, curve, and volume must be reconsidered, so the shoe accommodates the foot without appearing heavy or oversized. It becomes a careful balance of engineering and aesthetics – refining toe shape, vamp depth, and overall scale to maintain elegance while delivering volume and support the wearer needs. Rather than limiting creativity, these parameters push us to design smarter and more intentionally.

Blondie quickly became our most-loved pair after launch. From a design perspective, what do you think customers are responding to so immediately?
I believe our customer is very informed and style-aware, and she immediately recognized the reemergence of the ’90s-inspired direction reflected in Blondie. That balance between trend relevance and everyday wearability is what customers responded to so quickly.
Rue is designed as a flat sneaker engineered entirely for wide feet. What did building it from the ground up make possible that simply adapting a standard sneaker wouldn’t?
We simply cannot adapt standard sneakers or other existing styles. Each Wydr construction has to be developed from the ground up, because there isn’t a brand in the current market consistently creating 2W constructions that we can reference or build from. This reality requires us to engineer every model with intention, ensuring the fit, proportion, and comfort are integral to the design from the very beginning.

What are the subtle details in this collection that you’re most proud of, even if they’re not obvious at first glance?

I would say extra padded insoles and pointy toe styles.

Looking at Spring 2026 as a whole, what does this collection signal about where Wydr is heading next?
Looking at Spring 2026 as a whole, the collection signals that Wydr is moving toward a future of greater expression, playfulness, and fashion-driven silhouettes. We’re excited to evolve alongside our customer, introducing styles that feel more daring and design-led while continuing to honor our commitment to exceptional fit and comfort. It’s about expanding the visual language of the brand without losing the trust we’ve built.

What is your favorite style from the collection?
My favorite shoe is the Rue flat sneaker. I love how it functions as a modern take on a ballet flat in my wardrobe, while also fitting seamlessly into a sporty, casual outfit.
The Spring collection showcased a breadth of colors from nude pinks and beiges to fun animal prints and bold reds – how did you choose of colors for the season? Was it trend-based or more what you thought would serve our community better?
The color direction for the Spring collection was guided by both seasonal trends and, more importantly, by what we know resonates with our community. As a brand built around inclusivity, we want our wide-width customers to have access to the same on-trend color stories seen across the broader fashion market, rather than being limited to only basic options.
At the same time, we carefully consider our customers’ lifestyles and personal preferences. That’s why the collection balances versatile tones like nude pinks and beiges—colors that work easily into everyday wardrobes, with more expressive options such as animal prints and bold reds that allow customers to have fun with fashion.
Because we stay closely connected with our community and actively listen to their feedback, customer comments and suggestions play an important role in shaping these decisions. The goal is always to create a color assortment that feels current and exciting while still serving the real needs and style preferences of the people who wear our shoes.
How has making footwear for the wide fit community inspired you as a designer at Wydr?
Designing footwear for the wide-fit community has been incredibly inspiring because it pushes me to think more thoughtfully and responsibly as a designer. It’s not only about aesthetics – it’s about creating designs that truly serve the women who wear them. For a long time, many women who need wide-width footwear have had very limited fashionable options, so being able to design styles that are both on-trend and well-fitting feels very meaningful.
Working with Wydr has also deepened my connection to the community. Listening to customer feedback, understanding their lifestyles, and learning what makes them feel confident helps guide my design decisions. It’s inspiring to know that the work we do can help women feel included in fashion and express their personal style without having to compromise on comfort or fit.
That sense of helping women feel seen, considered, and empowered through design is what makes the process so rewarding for me as a designer.
