No Compromises: What Changed Renee's Mind About Wide-Fit Shoes

Wide width shoes don't always mean wide enough! Wydr is one of the very few companies I have found who have a wide enough toe box and decent calf grading that I can fit into them!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what your day-to-day life looks like?
Being a small business owner, no two days are rarely alike. You have to wear all the hats so some days I am doing accounting, marketing, legal stuff, client outreach, manufacturing and others we are doing photo shoots and content....some months I barely have time to actually be creative and design!

How would you describe your personal style, and how do you express it through your footwear choices?
I have an eclectic style but I always tend to have a bit of a rocker edge to my looks and being a New Yorker I wear a ton of black, of course! Lately I have been so busy travelling for work and doing the unglamourous side of fashion that I have been dressing for comfort - pretty much living in my Public Label hoodie dress and Wydr's Faith Booties with the studs on the back. I wear those almost everyday!!
What does a typical day in your life look like, and how does your footwear play a role in it?
I'm constantly running around the city, hauling garment bags or fabric or just running late to my next event, so my footwear has to keep up! I love something stylish with an all-day comfort. I have lived with arthritis since I was a child and have a few "invisible disabilities" as they are called so the more those progress with age the more support and comfort I need in my shoes, but I refuse to sacrifice style!

What were some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced with finding footwear that fits in the past?
Wide width shoes don't always mean wide enough! Wydr is one of the very few companies I have found who have a wide enough toe box and decent calf grading that I can fit into them!
Do you have any memorable stories or experiences tied to the footwear you’ve worn over the years?
Not really, but when I was young and stupid I would suffer for fashion. Many times I have crammed my feet into stilettos that didn't fit my wide feet and end up wanting to go barefoot or have bleeding blisters by the end of the night.

What are the top three things you look for when choosing a pair of shoes?
Style. Wide foot/wide calf. Genuine Leather.

How did you first come across Wydr Studios, and what made you decide to give it a try?
I knew about them from being within the size inclusive community. We share a lot of friends to both of our brands which is why it was perfect to have them as the shoe partner for my last runway show!

What stood out to you about our footwear compared to other brands you’ve tried?
It's odd since I never noticed how unsupportive other shoes were even if they were comfortable until I tried Wydr. Something about them feels a lot more stable and like the soles won't wear down as easily despite my size.

How has wearing our shoes impacted your daily life or activities?
I love the ease of the slip on and go comfort of the boots! It's nice to be on the go all day and not have to worry about foot or hip pain.

How does the footwear you choose reflect your values, such as sustainability, quality, or fashion?
I love shopping small when I can and I have really put a focus on quality lately. We have become too reliant on fast fashion or the blogger mentality that you can't wear the same outfit twice. That is wasteful and bad for the planet. So now I have recently purged most of my closet and instead investing only in quality products that will last me years of wear!
What would you say to someone considering trying Wydr Studios for the first time?
Measure your feet! These are legit wide width shoes so they actually run much bigger than most brands we shop.

What is your favorite pair of Wydr shoes that you've tried?
Ingrid Pointy Toe Kitten heels! Though I wear the booties and the chelsea boots most often, I just can't get enough of a pointy toe that actually fits me and the metallic finish!
